About

I started getting interested in music and audio at a very early age. Back then I’d record music from the radio and put on parties for my school friends. My first taste of DJing was at a school event when I was 13.

After that I got interested in Theatre and bigger music events at a much larger school. I did the sound and lighting for theatre shows, helped installed a new control room, did 16 & 35mm film projection, helped installed a new theatre control room, build sets, did the sound for live bands and DJed at big parties.

At university I studied a range of sound & music-related topics including architectural acoustics, studio technology, and the science of musical sound.

After uni, I got involved in doing sound or bands at The Cube in Bristol, for a year or so was their main sound tech doing shows several nights a week. These also included spoken word and cabaret, and I also usually did the lighting for the events too. At the same time, I also got involved in Ashton Court Festival, (aka Bristol Community Festival), which was a very cheap weekend music festival held in the middle of July. I helped with anything that needed doing but was especially involved in site decor and ended up as a director on the management committee.

During this same period I also had a radio show on one of the first streaming radio stations, dancetraxx.com aka DTX-FM on Tuesday nights, 10pm until midnight. I also did some radio shows for Venn Festival in Bristol. I was busy DJing in bars around Bristol too, including the iconic Arc Bar on Broad Street, Boom on Whiteladies Road, The Park on Triangle West and a little underground place on St Nicholas Street that I can’t remember the name of!

I gained my personal licence (sale of alcohol) shortly after the “new” licensing act was introduced in 2003, and did logistics for the security company at Leeds Festival and the perimeter at Glastonbury. I also did lighting with the beginnings of my own equipment for events in venues across Bristol including the Thekla and Trinity Centre, which back then didn’t have any lighting of its own!

In 2018 I started doing events further afield including the main stage sound and light at the family friendly Bracknell Ale & Cider Festival. This is a great family friendly outdoor event held towards the end of May with lots of live bands and usually finishes with a DJ. I’ve also done weddings, including one at St Georges in Bristol, sound reinforcement for corporate events, and audio recording and since 2019 usually have an assistant or two.
